Hello, Dear Friends,

Translate into French:
«But nothing can happen to me as long as you are here,» said Walter. «I shall be as safe… as safe as houses. Stay as long as you can, and have a drink.»
«I never drink on duty,» said the policeman. Still in his cape and helmet, he looked round. "So this is where you work?" he said.
«Yes, I was writing when you rang.»
«Some poor devil’s for it, I expect,» the policeman said.
«Oh, why? Walter was hurt by his unfriendly tone, and noticed how hard his gooseberry eyes were.
«I’ll tell you in a minute,» said the policeman, and then the telephone bell rang. Walter excused himself and hurried from the room.
«This is the police station,» said a voice. «Is that Mr Streeter?»
Walter said it was.
«Well, Mr Streeter, how is everything at your place? All right, I hope? I’ll tell you why I ask. I’m sorry we quite forgot about that little job we were going to do for you. Bad coordination, I’m afraid.»
«But,» said Walter, «you did send someone.»
«No, Mr Streeter, I’m afraid we didn’t.»

My God! Now I’m aware of being in an awful predicament. Somebody sent a killer to murder me. Who could it be? Surely someone who more or less recently had been badly hurt by my writings and actions. Someone who had lost any of his loved ones for instance. There were several people
who may be very anxious to take revenge for the evil that I did to them, but I am unable to say for sure how many or who of them would be ready to attack me physycallyor, worse, to murder me.
it remains no other chance to me out of that to frankly ask him if those were his intents and, if it be possible, convince him to give up his task in exchange of a compensation, which could be moral and material at the same time. 140

I thank you very much and I hope you have a nice weekend, dear friend.

How strange ! Walter thought. I’m sure I have met this cop before and I’m pretty sure I’ve known him and really his gooseberry eyes are unforgettable but I can’t put him back in a context. And what job did I ask the police to do for me ? What happens to me, I’m in a sort of feeling of “déjà vu”… I was writing, the bell rang, I opened the door and found myself in front of this weird cop, asking question, nosing about… Oh my God ! that looks like the story I am writing, and I feel rather stiff with terror because I know what happens after the cop’s arrival, I know the whole rather scary story. Where is my gun …?
And .. the bell rang, Walter woke up with a start, came round, wiped up his face, smiled and went to the door…

Thank u for this strange story (as you say not so easy to translate ..). Eager to know the conclusion …
Have a nice sunny week-end

Oh my! It CAN'T be! WOULD this man be an impostor? Yet, he looks so real! I SHOULD have asked him to show me his papers...
What am I gonna do now? I MUSTN'T panick, otherwise he MIGHT think I'm aware he's not who he pretends to be. I MAY be in great danger but I HAVE TO think clearly.
I OUGHT TO make him believe I have full faith in him. I WILL tell him the phone call was from the repairman who came yesterday. Meanwhile, I'D BETTER press that emergency button which will alert a policeman discreetly.
If I make it out of here alive, I SHALL be extra careful from now on...

Hi Everybody!

II) OPTIONAL: Expression : When he realised the situation he was in, Walter's thoughts rushed to his mind… Express his stream of consciousness… (120-140 words.) (L'usage des auxiliaires modaux s'impose !)

I just WOULD like to know who is the man who says to be a policeman ? I SHOULD ask him for his identity card… he is armed and MIGHT kill me. CAN I really trust him ? He MAY be a spy or a contract killer? Why the Police station called me tonight, to tell me that they did nothing yet for me… ? I CAN hear my heart bitting into my whole body, I CAN feel my breathe go faster as ever, I ‘m really thirsty but in order to drink I HAVE TO go through the room where he stands… To whom COULD I phone at this late hour at night to get some help ? I feel uncomfortable, I MUST and WILL call for the Police, as it OUGHT TO be, it WOULD be better. I fell into a trap ! 140 words.

I’m certainly very far from the author’s idea, but that is what I feel by reading his passage.

Here is THE FORCE my dear Here4u 💪!

Take care of yourself! Have a very sweet summer…, each of You!
See you soon.

Hello, dear Friends,

Hello my dear Here4u!
Hi dear hard workers!

Let us see!
See you soon.

I just WOULD( just entre l'auxilliaire et le verbe) what the man who asserts to be policeman looks like, I SHOULD ask him for his identity card. He goes armed (porter une arme) and MIGHT kill me. May I really trust him ?MAY he be a spy or a contract killer ?...Why did (c'est une question, donc un auxilliaire est nécessaire) the police station calls me tonight, to tell me or (Let me know) that they haven't done anything yet ( l'action n'a pas été accomplie encore) for me yet( yet en fin de phrase ) I CAN hear my hart beating in ( dictionnaire) my whole body I can feel my breath going faster than ever (than=comparaison aussi vite que), I am really thirsty but in order to drink I HAVE To strode accross the room where he stands...who COULD I give a call to, for help , so late at night (je ne suis pas certaine???) I feel unconfortable , I MUST and I will call the police, as is usual in theses cases????it would be better , I fell into a trap

Hello dear Hardworkers,

«But nothing can happen to me as long as you are here,» said Walter. «I shall be as safe… as safe as houses. Stay as long as you can, and have a drink.»
«I never drink on duty,» said the policeman. Still in his cape and helmet, he looked round. «So this is where you work?» he said.
«Yes, I was writing when you rang.»
«Some poor devil’s for it, I expect,» the policeman said.
«Oh, why?" Walter was hurt by his unfriendly tone, and noticed how hard his gooseberry eyes were.
L.P. HARTLEY, The White Wand and Other Stories.

- I shall be as safe… as safe as = Je ne cours aucun risque.
- Houses= Lien internet
- To drink on duty: boire en service
- «So this is where you work...: j’ai un peu développé : "C’est donc ici que vous travaillez ?" pour mieux exprimer l’implicite de la question du « policier » : « Alors, c’est ici que vous écrivez vos fameux romans policiers ? »
- «Some poor devil’s for it, I expect,»= informal language : un pauvre type/ un pauvre diable/ il va y passer/ passer l’arme à gauche / go west / meet your maker/ check out / join the majority/ croak/ kick the bucket/ est plus moderne/ snuff it/ [ qui donne "bucket list" Lien internet
)
- «His gooseberries eyes» : Ouh là ! Difficile !

- «I’m sorry I forgot»= "navré d’avoir oublié …"

Alors, «strange?», «loufoque?», or «exhilarating» ???? this story is difficult for sure… and it’s not the end of it… Just be ready…

You’re GREAT!

FINISHED
Hello
Je tente
Choco's OPTIONAL:

I WOULD just like to know who the man who pretends to be a policeman really is?(pas de point d'interrogation, car c'est une proposition indirecte.) I SHOULD ask him for his identity card… He is armed and MIGHT kill me. CAN I really trust him? He MAY be a spy or a contract killer... Why did the Police station (clumsy! The station didn't call!) call me tonight, to tell me that they haven' hadn't done anything for me yet…? I CAN hear my heart beating in my whole body, I CAN feel my breath go faster than ever, I‘m really thirsty but in order to drink I HAVE TO go through the room where he stands…(OK, j'aurais me une forme en -ing) To * whom COULD I phone at this late hour at night to get some help? I feel uncomfortable, I MUST and WILL call for the Police, as it should be, it WOULD be better. I fell into a trap! 140 words.TTTB

* To phone someone.

I just WOULD( just entre l'auxilliaire et le verbe) Pas de chance, c'est max qui a raison .... et tu as oublié le verbe !) what the man who asserts to be policeman looks like, I SHOULD ask him for his identity card. He goes armed (porter une arme) and MIGHT kill me. May I really trust him? MAY he be a spy or a contract killer?... Why did (c'est une question, donc un auxilliaire est nécessaire) the police station (même remarque qu'au dessus!) calls me tonight, to tell me or (Let me know) that they haven't done anything yet ( l'action n'a pas été accomplie encore) for me yet( yet en fin de phrase ) I CAN hear my hart beating in ( dictionnaire)** my whole body I can feel my breath going faster than ever (than= comparaison aussi = plus vite que), I am really thirsty but in order to drink I HAVE To strode (Tes verbes irréguliers, Taiji ... Je vais te tordre le cou !) accross the room where he stands... who COULD I give a call to, for help, so late at night (je ne suis pas certaine???OK ) I feel unconfortable, I MUST and I will call the police, as is usual in theses in such cases it would be better, I fell into a trap. TTB

** hear my heart beat// my heart beating.
