took to + ing ? Exception ?

Bonjour,
Dans un roman anglais, j'ai trouvé la phrase suivante :
He took to going out in full daylight...
Je m'interroge sur le took to + ing .. s'agit-il d'une exception à apprendre par coeur, comme look forward + ing ?

C'est un verbe à postposition qui a le sens de prendre l'habitude de/se mettre à + infinitif.

Ici il ne s'agit pas d'un verbe à postposition.
Il est bien comme "look forward" ; le "to" qui suit est simplement une préposition ici, et un verbe qui suit une préposition est toujours mis à la forme en -ING.
Je suis d'accord quant au sens: "take to doing" = developper l'habitude de faire, apprendre à aimer faire

TO is follwed by -ing in two cases:
01. when it is a particle which combines with lexical verbs to form multi-word verbs, e.g.
(Examples come from Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English)
Dee's taken to getting up at 6 and going jogging.
My mother says she's looking forward to meeting you.
02. when it is a preposition dependent on a verb,e.g.
1. He confessed to having a secret admiration for his opponent.
2. Owen did not confine himself to writing only one type of poem.
3. I restrict myself to drinking one cup of coffee a day.
4a. I objected to having to rewrite the article.
4b. I really object to being charged for parking (Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary)
5.We may have to resort to using untrained staff. (Oxford)
