To be ou to have ?

Hello :
Pourquoi ici nous utilisons to be plutôt que to have ? Ou peut-on utiliser les deux ?
Si quelque chose devait arriver à l'un ou a l'autre...
IF something "were" to happen to either one of us.
IF something had to happen to either one of us.?
Mais ici c'est bien to have qu'il faut utiliser ? Ou alors, comment utiliser to be ?
if something has to happen. If something to be happen ?...
Un peu bizarre, non ?

« To be to + inf » comme « to have to + inf » ne conviennent pas.
Il faut utiliser «should»
Should
Dans les subordonnées hypothétiques should se rencontre après if et exprime une condition, une supposition, une hypothèse. Il souligne particulièrement le caractère hypothétique de la condition. il se traduit en français par un imparfait.
Voici un exemple :
If Bob should phone while I'm out, tell him to call me back.
Si Bob devait appeler pendant mon absence, dis-lui de me rappeler.
Voici le début de votre phrase :
« If something should happen ......»

merci taconnet pour la réponse, effectivement, en anglais 'traditionnel" ça me paraît plus clair. En revanche, "if something were to happen" est courant aux USA visiblement, je l'entends assez souvent, c'est pour cela que j'ai posé la question.

Voilà ce que j'ai trouvé :
The subjonctive form were to, can be used to refer to a hypothetical future.
example :
« I'd hate it if anything were to happen to them.»
This sentence has the same meaning as :
I'd hate it if anything happened to them.
I'd hate it if anything should happen to them.

Vous pouvez donc employer « were to » ou « should »

"Were to" presents a hypothetical. The hypothetical is regarded as impossible (although very little about the future is really impossible).
(Almost certainly, nothing will happen to me. However...) If something were to happen to me, I would want my family to be taken care of.
"Should" presents an event that is highly unlikely, yet nevertheless quite possible.
(Something might happen to me.) If something should happen to me, I want my family to be taken care of.
