Décrire et interpréter une image
Message de peyton483 posté le 21-10-2009 à 17:06:06 (S | E | F)

Bonjour !

Je dois présenter, décrire et interpréter une image humoristique sur le conflit entre les Catholiques et les Prostestants en Irlande (avec l'IRA notamment). J'ai ainsi rédigé un texte et j'aimerais savoir si vous y remarquiez des fautes :

This document is a humoristic cartoon from the website www.cartoonstock.com and made by the artist Bart. It deals with the conflict between Catholics and Protestants in Ireland. Neither the title nor the date are known.

In this cartoon, we see three characters : there are two hooded men in a standing position who are pointing their guns at a third man, who is kneeling down between them. The two hooded men are all black dressed whereas the other character wears normal clothes. The gunmen are asking him whether he believes in God and in which one; he's answering yes.
The scene takes place in an empty street,in front of a wall.
At last, we notice the abbreviations U.D.F and I.R.A on the picture.

With this humoristic and ironic cartoon, the artist wants to denounce the violent struggle which tears apart Ireland : indeed, the two hooded men represent IRA members, mainly Catholics, and who fought against Protestants.
The artist shows us that this conflict between Catholics and Protestants is ridiculous as they believe in the same God. So the second hooded man is talking non-sense when he's asking 'which one?' : it means that some IRA members don't even know for what they are fighting and it strenghtens the absurdity of the violent struggle between Catholics and Protestants.

J'hésitais en particulier sur l'emploi du prétérit dans le phrase "indeed, the two hooded men represent IRA members, mainly protestants, and who FOUGHT against Catholics" (2ème paragraphe): je voulais en fait faire référence aux membres de l'IRA qui s'étaient battus ds le passé contre les Catholiques (pas spécifiquement aux hommes de l'image).

Merci pour vos prochaines réponses !!!

Bonjour, voici ce que tu dois corriger:
This document is a humoristic cartoon from the website www.cartoonstock.com and made by the artist Bart. It deals with the conflict between Catholics and Protestants in Ireland. Neither the title nor the date are known.

In this cartoon, we can see three characters : there are two hooded men in a standing position (who are standing) who are pointing their guns at a third man, who is kneeling down between them. The two hooded men are all black dressed whereas the other character wears (présent progressif) normal ? clothes. The gunmen are asking him whether he believes in God or not and in which one; he's answering yes.
The scene takes place in an empty street,in front of a wall.
At last, we can notice the abbreviations U.D.F and I.R.A on the picture.

The artist shows us that this conflict between Catholics and Protestants is ridiculous as they believe in the same God. So the second hooded man is talking non-sense when he's asking 'which one?' : it means that some IRA members don't even know for (pas à la bonne place) what they are fighting and it strenghtens the absurdity of the violent struggle between Catholics and Protestants.

GOOD!

D'accord !
Donc je devrais mettre "the other character is wearing normal clothes" (en fait je voulais dire qu'il était habillé normalement contrairement aux deux autres personnages), "some IRA members don't even know what they are fighting for" ?
Merci bcp en tous cas pour ces corrections !

Bonjour,
Il me semble que l'expression "humoristic cartoon" est une tautologie. Unless it is a movie made of drawings, a cartoon is by definition a humoristic drawing. And therefore a humoristic cartoon sounds a bit like "wet water" or "ill sickness".

Par ailleurs, ce qui me frappe (what strucks me) c'est la longueur et la relative complexité de phrases telles que : "In this cartoon, we see three characters : there are two hooded men in a standing position who are pointing their guns at a third man, who is kneeling down between them."

All the best!
