Green disposables /correction
Message de sandria posté le 06-12-2013 à 02:05:18 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,
pouvez-vous me dire ce qui n'est pas bon s'il vous plaît?
Merci pour votre aide.

Enoncé: Faire un commentaire sur le texte, bien structuré avec intro, développement et conclusion et en reformulant le texte, pas de paraphrase.
The dish on green disposables
Americans trash an estimated trillion disposable plates and utensils every year; a single-use plate's useful life averages only about five minutes. For Verterra, a hyper-green New York City start-up, the solution is simple: fallen leaves and steam. After testing dozens of varieties, founder Michael Dwork settled on a palm leaf common in India. Verterra hopes the new plates and bowls will soon change how Americans serve food at parties and picnics.
Unlike the millions of tons of disposable dishes that lie in landfills, Verterra's dishware biodegrades in six weeks because it's made without chemicals, waxes or plastics. Nevertheless, in contrast to many disposables, Verterra dishes can be used in the oven, microwave or freezer. You can even wash them by hand and reuse them.
But compared with plastic-coated paper plates, which cost pennies, Verterra's stuff isn't cheap. Dishes are priced at 75 cents apiece unless ordered in bulk. The expense stems not from the leaves and steam, which are virtually free, but from the cost of labor, manufacturing and shipping. Verterra pays a living wage — nearly $1,000 annually — to rural workers in India who gather organic leaves and transfer them to a local plant to be treated with steam, heat and pressure and sterilized with UV light. The finished plates are then shipped to the U.S. These costs have risen more than 40% over the past year.
Green-sensitive consumers are paying attention, and paying up. Columbia University, the Clinton Museum and VH1 have ordered the plates for events, and Verterra has provided dishes for hundreds of bar mitzvahs, weddings and parties. Dwork is negotiating with specialty retailers, aiming to compete with makers of costlier high-end bamboo and wood products.
He now heads a staff of more than 50 in the U.S. and India, and the company recently finished its second factory in India, a football-field-size facility that can produce a million pieces a month. 100 tons of leaves a month would otherwise be burned. Sales are heading to $1 million next year.

Commentary
Introduction
This document is titled “The dish on green disposables”.
This document is a press article.
It comes from Time Magazine.
It was published in February 2009.
It was certainly written by a journalist but we don’t know his name.
It deals with green dishes.
My commentary falls into three parts.
The first one will be devoted to the facts.
The second one will be about the advantages.
The third one will deal with the drawbacks.

The facts
It takes place in the USA and more precisely in New York City as we can see on line 2.
It also takes place at the beginning of the 21st century.
Michael Dwork is the creator of Verterra that sells green dishes.
Verterra is a hyper-green New York City start-up.
From fifty employees and more, a company is considered to be big. Verterra is a quite big company because it has more than 50 workers in the U.S. and India.
All years, Americans thrown in the bin around a trillion disposable plates and ustensils, moreover a disposable plate lasts only a few minutes.
To avoid this waste, Verterra has a solution: fallen leaves and steam. Michael Dwork tried many different leaves and finally, he chose a palm leaf frequent in India. Verterra wants revolutionize the way of Americans serve food at parties and picnics with his new plates and bowls.

We’ve just seen the facts. Now let’s talk about the advantages.
Advantages
Verterra’s dishware does not fill the dumps as disposable dishes because it biodegrades in six weeks thanks to his fabrication without chemicals, waxes or plastics. Nonetheless, Verterra dishes can be used in the freezer, oven or microwave, unlike a lot of disposables. It is even possible to wash them by hand and use them again.

We’ve just seen the advantages, now we’re going to talk about the drawbacks.
Drawbacks
However, plastic-coated paper plates cost pennies while OU whereas Verterra dishes are expensive. The unit price of dishes is at 75 cents except if ordered in large quantities.
The cost is not due to the leaves and steam because they are almost free, it is due to the cost of workforce, manufacturing and shipping. When the plates are ended, they are then shipped to the U.S. These costs have increased more than 40% during the past year.
The consumers who are sensitive to the ecology are attentive and they pay up. Verterra has supplied dishes for many of events, parties. The boss negociated with specialty retailers, because he wants to compete with makers of costlier high-end bamboo and wood products.

Conclusion
To sum up, this text deals with green dishes, his advantages and drawbacks.
In my opinion, the ecologism is great,it's more respectful of the planet.
It reminds me of
