Oral/Spaces and Exchanges
Message de charlene29 posté le 10-04-2016 à 18:19:54 (S | E | F)
Bonjour,
je passe mon oral d'anglais dans un mois, et dans la mesure du possible je souhaiterais que l'on puisse me corriger svp s'il vous plait.
Merci pour vos réponses.

Let’s talk about spaces and exchanges. This notion includes two elements: first spaces which can be territories like countries and geographical or virtual areas like internet and after exchanges which can be relationships, interactions or links. We can identify economic exchanges; cultural exchanges; political exchanges. In our modern world, distances between spaces and exchanges are reduced thanks to new means of communication and of transports spaces are closer. Exchanges are easier and faster than before.
In class, we studied this notion with the chapter cultural identities, who is what by what we recognize a human community.
What is the role of cultural identities for exchanges between countries?
To begin, we’re going to see cultural identities in the political field.
Then, let’s study tourist and cultural exchanges.
Finally, we will focus on immigration.
In first, we watched a video extract of a British movie whose title is Love actually. The scene takes place in England, during a press conference between the president of the USA and the British Prime Minister, in front of journalists and photographs. The president speaks in first, he talks about “special relationship”, indeed he implies points common of USA and UK. In spite of these exchanges between us, the atmosphere between the two politicians is tense, that is why the president said “special relationship”. Consequently, the British prime minister delivers a speech in order to defend his small country, he mentions elements which make English people proud such as the Beatles or Winston Churchill who was his predecessor during the world war two. In his speech, the British prime minister doesn’t really highlight the notion “spaces and exchanges”, because he doesn’t talk about exchanges between the two countries or about political agreement. Instead he focuses on British cultural identity to show Britain is as powerful as the USA.
In a second time, we analysed cultural identities in tourism and to do that we studied a travel guide written for American tourists who want to visit France. This guide is entitled “U.S Travel Advisory” and he is divided in different parts which represent the cultural identity of France. This travel guide deals with a list of criticism prejudices against French people, with a humorous tone. The author is unknown but he blames French people for doing many things. Indeed, the author criticizes us for eating loathsome things such as snails, and he reproaches us for having a bad tempered too. But then we realize that the real target of the text is American tourists who travel in France. Actually, they lack curiosity, they don’t want wish discover French’s food and the author criticizes them for eating junk food. American travellers are silly, they don’t want to meet the local inhabitants and to adapt to a foreign culture. They prefer stay in group, speak English, they are narrow minded and self-centred which doesn’t facilitate exchanges. Unfortunately, in our modern world the tourist exchanges between diverse countries take place more and more in this way.
Finally, we have seen another document about cultural exchanges in the context of immigration. It intituled “Don’t judge me” and extracted of Deception on his Mind, written by Elisabeth Georges. The scene takes place in Great Britain, the present characters are Sahlah and Rachel two English teenagers, who have been friends for eleven years. Sahlah is immigrant, she has Pakistani origins and she had to adapt to the English way of life. The two girls fought each other for two weeks ago this extract because they are disagreeing about a Pakistani custom. It comes to the arranged marriage, Sahlah much get married with a Pakistani stranger chosen by her parents and Rachel tried to dissuade her. The case of Sahlah prove that immigrants have to adapt to a new cultural identity but they also have their own customs.

To conclude, we can say that the different cultural identities include all the customs appropriate to an ethnic group and the diversity of the traditions allows exchanges.
From my point of view, exchanges are necessary for the proper functioning of the society.
Are the cultural exchanges the most important?
