--> The sea was sh----ring for the Impressionist's eyes.
--> the sun was sh--ing high in the sky
3- Ses yeux brillaient/étincelaient d'excitation
--> His eyes were sp----ing/tw----ing with excitement
--> the stars were gl--m---ing/tw----ing in the night
(idée de faible lueur)
5- Les étoiles scintillaient comme un diamant
--> the stars were gl--t---ing as diamonds did
--> the ruby was gl---ing under the light of the lamp
--> the brass of the bar was sh--ing
--> the snow was gl-----ing under the winter sun
(pour les surfaces mouillées, neige, larmes...)
9- le métal rougeoyait comme la fournaise
--> the metal was gl--ing like furnace
(idée de lueur rouge; cigarettes, charbon, lampe...)
10- le soleil rayonnait au-dessus de nous
--> the sun was be--ing down on us
11- la fenêtre éclairait la rue sans réverbère
--> the window li---ed the street without streetlamp
Bon courage.

bonsoir gewurz!
1- The sea was shimmering for the Impressionist's eyes
2- The sun was shining high in the sky.
3- His eyes were sparkling / twinkling with excitement
4- The stars were glimmering/twinkling in the night
