je viens de finir de rédiger mon oral de bac d'anglais de la notion Mythes et Héros.. J'espére que quelqu'un pourra corriger mes fautes.
Merci beaucoup !
I’m going to talk about the notion of myth and heroes.First of all, I would like to give a definition of myth and heroes. A myth is a story that may or may not be true. There may not be records or other proof that prove that they happened, but at least some parts of myths may be true. Some myths may have started as ‘true’ stories but as people re-told them some parts may have been changed by mistake, or to make them more interesting. All cultures have myths and this mythology has been developed over time. Mythology includes the legends of our history, our religions, stories of how the world was created, and our heroes. These stories have great symbolic power, and this may be a major reason why they survive as long as they do, sometimes for thousands of years. A hero is a person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. It can be the main character in a book or a film or a person with superhuman qualities. It can also be a modern-day hero, a person who has performed a heroic act or simply our own personal hero, our role model, who we look up to.
In order to illustrate the notion, I have chosen four documents: the photograph of a back with a huge tattoo, a text who talk about 9/11 and two cover of The New Yorker. Let me explain the reason why I have chosen them. The first document is very moving he illustrate the pain of people who lost someone. The third document explain well the fact that lot of people, help and risk their lives to save people. And the cover shows the consequences of 9/11.
To my mind, the document that seem to best illustrate the notion is the first, because it’s a real photograph of a the back tatoo of a man who may lost someone he care about.
The first document represents the front cover of a magazine name The New Yorker. It was published on November 29th 2010 at Halloween time. It represents many characters in disguise such as super heroes celebrities or imaginary characters.
The second document is also a cover of a The New Yorker. This one was published on 29th 2001 that is to say a few weeks after the terrorist act on the WTC. On this cover we can see children disguised as policemen or firemen. These children wanted to pay tribute to the policemen and firefighter who died in the attack.
The third document is a text about what happened in the flight 93 that crashed in Pennsylvania instead of the white house.
The fourth document is a photograph. It represents a man whose back is covered by a huge tattoo. This tattoo is a picture of Twin Tower. We can see a list of names probably victims of the attack. This tattoo is a way to paying tribute.
We will answer to the problematic: How did ordinary men become the heroes of America?
What would you do if you were going about your daily life and saw someone in trouble? Would you act, even if it meant risking your own life? We often wonder if we would have the courage to step in and come to the rescue. These people did, selflessly putting themselves on the line to save others from possible death in the face of danger.
We can take the example of what happened 11 September 2001 in the USA: the tragic terrorist attack, which make 2 977 victims. Before twin tower collapsed, many people tried to save lives: fire fighter, rescue worker, policemen and so many other people who didn’t have a job like that, simply humans. Even if they didn’t have a cape, power or magic they proved to the entire world that bravery is the most important powers, we can say that they are heroes of America. They risked their lives to go to the towers on fire and help women and man go away. They preferred dying to save people instead of going and letting them helpless inside. Christopher Reeve said ‘’ a hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.’’
In the one hand, we can compare the two covers of The New Yorker. In fact, both of them were published in the halloween period. The first one was published 2 mouth after the terorists attack. We can see a lot of children that are looking for candy. But, they aren’t desguised like we used to see. Indeed they’re all are in fire fighters. This proves that the fire fighters that saved lives on 9 11 represent heroes for an entire generation. Now we’re going to see how halloween looks like 9 years later. First of all, the cover show caracters that don’t seems to be real contrary to the first cover. And in this one, the impact of the terrorist attack seems to have disapearded. We can see witches, wonder woman, spider man, and even Elvis Presley. The children don’t disguised has fire fighters anymore. It show the short-lived of success has hero. In fact, the children of 2010 didn’t live the attack and probably don’t even know what happened.
In the other hand, we will interested ourselves on the text “9-11 heroes of Pennsylvania”. In fact, on 9-11, 2 planes hit the WTC, 1 hit the pantagon, and 1 crashed in Pennsylvania. Indeed, the terrorists wanted to crash the plane in the white house, but the passengers of this flight, fought to get the control of the plane, to save the white house. All the passengers that fought for this are heroes. In fact, they known that they will died, and instead of give in to pannic, they gave their last breathe to save America. They sacrified themselves, to prevent from an other terrorist act. They were person who don’t even known each other, and at least, they joined their forces to fight against the terrorists. And that’s who ordinary people became heroes.
To finish, we will talk about the commemoration that followed the attack. In this document, we can see the back of man that is entirly tatooed. We can see the two tours during the attack, and and a list of names. Those names are probably people that the man loose. We may think that this tatoo is a way to mourn.
To conclude , ordinary men become the heroes of America because of specific actions like saving lives and take the risk of dying. And when a country is mourning, they need positive things and strengh to recover from a such tragedy. The heroes of 9-11 gave hope to America, and showed that even if the nation is attacked, she will recover from it, and will rise ordinary man in heroes that will help the people to get up again and faced the future.
